Wheatland County, Alberta
Wheatland County runs east from Calgary along the Trans-Canada, covering about 4,505 square kilometres between Rocky View County and the County of Newell. Our base in Beiseker sits just north of it, so a build here lands squarely inside the area we cover every week.
Your Builder in Wheatland County
Wheatland County covers roughly 4,505 square kilometres east of Calgary. Rocky View County is on its western edge, Kneehill County and Drumheller sit to the north, and the County of Newell is to the east. About 8,738 people live in the county itself, alongside the Town of Strathmore and the Villages of Standard, Rockyford and Hussar, which govern themselves.
The county looks after thirteen hamlets, among them Carseland, Cheadle, Cluny, Gleichen, Lyalta, Nightingale, Rosebud and Speargrass. Highways 1, 21, 24 and 56 run through it, and Lyalta is about half an hour from the Calgary airport. Most of the recent residential growth has landed in Carseland, Gleichen, Speargrass and Lyalta, and close to nine in ten homes in the county are single-family.
Every CreekWest floor plan is customizable. You can move walls, change the layout and choose your finishes, and we will tell you honestly what each change does to your budget and your timeline before you commit to it.
We also handle the county side of the paperwork. Wheatland needs a development permit for almost any structure over 100 square feet, and a separate Alberta Building Code permit on top of that, so we line them up in order rather than all at once.

Questions
It runs east from Calgary along the Trans-Canada Highway and covers about 4,505 square kilometres. Rocky View County is on its western edge, Kneehill County and Drumheller sit to the north, and the County of Newell is to the east. The county office is at 242006 Range Road 243, just off Highway 1.
The Town of Strathmore and the Villages of Hussar, Rockyford and Standard sit inside the county but govern themselves. The county itself looks after thirteen hamlets: Ardenode, Carseland, Chancellor, Cheadle, Cluny, Dalum, Gleichen, Lyalta, Namaka, Nightingale, Redland, Rosebud and Speargrass.
A development permit from the county for almost any structure over 100 square feet, plus a separate Alberta Building Code permit. The county has used The Inspections Group for building and private sewage permits since January 2024, and those usually take one to three weeks. We put the applications in and manage the order so nothing sits waiting on the wrong one.
A few things catch people out. The county does not accept septic holding tanks for residential lots, so your land needs a sewage system it will approve. Within 1,600 metres of a provincial highway you also need a roadside development permit from Alberta Transportation, and land near a Western Irrigation District canal needs their sign-off. A new road approach needs an Access and Work Agreement with the county.
Yes. Alberta requires New Home Warranty coverage on a new build, and Wheatland will not issue the building permit until proof of it is on file. We sort that out as part of the permit package.
Before, wherever possible. We offer flexible financing solutions and work with trusted lenders, and getting that settled early is the single easiest way to stop a build stalling later.
You tell us, and we tell you what it does to your budget and your timeline before anything is committed. No silent change orders.
